Minireview, The oxidative stress-induced niacin sink (OSINS) model for HIV pathogenesis.
Taylor EW.

Laboratory for Molecular Medicine, Office of Research, 206 Eberhart Bldg., University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Greensboro, NC 27402.

“Several striking nutrient-related metabolic abnormalities have been consistently documented in HIV infection. One is chronic oxidative stress, including a drastic depletion of cysteine from the glutathione pool… The OSINS model can be used to guide the design of nutraceutical regimens that can effectively complement antiretroviral therapy for HIV/AIDS.”

Whey proteins as a food supplement in HIV-seropositive individuals.
Bounous G, Baruchel S, Falutz J, Gold P.

Department of Surgery, Montreal General Hospital, Quebec.
“On the basis of numerous animal experiments, a pilot study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of undenatured, biologically active, dietary whey protein in 3 HIV-seropositive individuals over a period of 3 months. Over the 3-month period, glutathione levels increased in all 3 cases. In conclusion, these preliminary data indicate that, in patients who maintain an adequate total caloric intake, the addition of “bioactive” whey protein concentrate as a significant portion of total protein intake increases body weight and shows elevation of glutathione (GSH) content of mononuclear cells toward normal levels. This pilot study will serve as a basis for a much larger clinical trial.”

Effects of long-term supplementation with whey proteins on plasma glutathione levels of HIV-infected patients.
Micke P, Beeh KM, Buhl R.

Pulmonary Division III, Medical Department, Mainz University Hospital, Germany. p.micke@3-med.klinik.uni-mainz.de

“Supplementation with whey proteins persistently increased plasma glutathione levels in patients with advanced HIV-infection. The treatment was well tolerated. A larger long-term trial is clearly warranted to evaluate whether this positive influence on the glutathione metabolism translates into a more favorable course of the disease.”

METHOD OF TREATMENT OF HIV-SEROPOSITIVE INDIVIDUALS WITH DIETARY WHEY PROTEINS
Canadian Patents Database

“13. The use of a substantially undenatured whey protein concentrate, in an amount effective to increase the blood mononuclear cell glutathione concentration and maintain or increase body weight in an HIV-seropositive individual.

14. A use as in any one of claims 1 to 5 or 13, in which the substantially undenatured whey protein concentrate has a solubility index at pH 4.6 of at least in the range from 90% to
95%.

17. A composition for the treatment of HIV seropositive individuals comprising a substantially undenatured whey protein concentrate in an amount sufficient to elevate blood mononuclear cell glutathione concentration, body weight and sense of well being, and an enterically acceptable carrier.
18. A composition for the treatment of HIV seropositive individuals comprising asubstantially undenatured whey protein concentrate in an amount sufficient to elevate their T-helper cells concentration and their T-helper cells/T-suppressor cells ratio, and an enterically acceptable carrier.”

One more thing.
Glutathione is only made by the body in the body.

It’s just me. My son once said I should write my memoir but since I have mental issues, I can never organize the writing part. So here we are, it’s all random…
